Leafy Greens Farm is a small-scale farm growing vegetables using organic practices. We are located in St. Charles County, MO. We specialize in providing organically-grown vegetables to local restaurants, businesses, and community members. We are good people growing great produce and are growing, learning, and loving every bit of it along the way.
Leafy Greens Farm was started by Damian and Amber. Currently engaged to be married, they met while hiking in the snow on the Lewis and Clark trail in 2009. They both love being outdoors and cooking, so they decided to combine their interests and started their first vegetable garden together in Spring 2011. Shortly after that, they were given the opportunity to start farming on a quarter-acre of land in beautiful Defiance, MO and on the property of Boone's Hollow Farm.
When they started farming in 2011, the grass at the farm was 3 feet tall and the clay-based soil was as hard as a brick. They began supplementing the soil with organic compost and tilling it into soft mounded beds for vegetables. They are using organic practices when growing vegetables - which means there are using no pesticides or chemical fertilizers in order to keep the soil and the vegetables healthy.
In 2012, Damian and Amber decided to focus the farm on being a salad-based business and decided on the name of Leafy Greens Farm. They began to wholesale to restaurants, sell to markets, and offered "Veg Out & Be Healthy" boxes to share with others interested in eating our locally grown produce.
In 2013, Damian and Amber started a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program with 10 members. Each CSA member got a huge box of vegetables every other week. Over 2,000 lbs of vegetables were harvested for community and CSA members during the year. That's a ton of vegetables!
In 2014, Damian and Amber plan to expand the CSA program to include 20 members and continue to wholesale vegetables to restaurants and markets. They look forward to what the year has in store for Leafy Greens Farm.
